blowing air from rear hindges
I just noticed something I consider strange.
Heater is full on, all doors shut, and a lot of air is being forces "out" the hindges of the rear doors.
I looked at the seals and all look good and well seated. All four hindges are doing this, but I think the top driver is the hardest.
Does anyone else's do this?
My assumption is that this is the weakest link in the air compartment, and the forced heater air is just pushing it out, but Im amazed at the force of it. And a little concerned that it allows cold/hot air to enter the van unintentionally.
Just curious.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
I've noticed that ..but ours seems like the opposite. Only cold air comes in from the rear doors. If it's really cold, i will sleep with my head near the front of the truck vs at the back doors. Never really gone outside to feel if the heat is escaping but i imagine it would just the same as the cold comes in. Our weather stripping and doors appear to be just fine also.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
The heater shouldn't be making any pressure, the intake is in the van... I'm assuming you're talking about the suburban and not the dash heater?

Oh ok, the dash heater does create a lot of pressure.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
I have to keep positive pressure inside or dust will come in though that area while hitting powder dry roads.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
I have been told that if you run the A/C on "normal" it draws in outside air. If you run it on "max" it recirculates inside air. So on dusty roads I run it on "max" and just adjust the temp so it's not too cold.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
Correct. But it sucks up fuel and I hate to run the AC when its nice and cool out side. The vent position seems to work also and use it during cold weather. I plan to add an extra seal like Jeffery did but I still think dust will enter through other routes.

Re: blowing air from rear hindges
I actually use the max setting to keep dust from coming in the vents. Guess that's why I have so much dust coming in the rear hinges, which, given the choice I can live with.
