I'm a cabinetmaker. While filling the holes with matchsticks or dowels is a time honored way of fixing that problem a better solution is epoxy. You can shred a little extra fine steel wool into the epoxy mix and then use a small nail to work it in to the holes. Cover it with a little masking tape if you need to keep it from running out.
When you use wood to fill the holes it's hard to get the new holes in the exact right spot as the drill or screws want to follow the grain of the dowel. With epoxy and steel wool the screws will be much easier to align. Use a bit longer screws on your fix and put a dab of epoxy on them as well.
Shame on cabinetmakers that work on RV's that use particle board!

Particle board would be an upgrade from what SMB used to use for their cabinets.
