CMT Air Compressor Kit - opinions? experience?

I realize that on-board air would be ideal (probably), but I was wondering about those portable non-permanent kinds of compressors. I've read some of the posts regarding the Master Flow air compressors and was wondering what everyone thought about this one:

http://www.jackstoolshed.com/product...arry_Case.html

Is it pretty much the same as the MF's? Would this be a good idea to carry in your vehicle (SMB or other vehicle - minivan, car, etc)? Comments? Opinions?

FYI: This wouldn't be for airing up 4 tires or anything hardcore, but more for filling a tire or two that had a slow leak or was just a little low. Kind of like an "emergency" compressor if you need to inflate a tire, or for general tire maintenance.

Please let me know your thoughts! You guys/gals are probably the most well-versed people I know who use such things for vehicles!

I've tried a couple of those cheap, little compressors. Claim to be able to deliver 125 or even 200 psi. But, I could never get 50 psi, even deadheaded.

My answer would be to save your money for a real compressor, portable or hard mounted.

I have to agree with Mike here Dave. The little ones that plug into the cig lighter are pretty much junk. Costco was, and maybe still is, selling one for around $50 and it's not too bad for emergency work. But still nothing great and a friend had one go bad right away. Not good for something along the lines of emergency gear.

We have had three in the last few years. Two of them with the Craftsman label on them. They would work for a while, but never seem to last, and this is with no hard core usage.

The latest is a Diehard combo unit with jumpstart and inverter and it will overheat under any sort of extended use.

I have to say I was impressed with the Extreme Air unit during our Big Bend Ranch State Park trip.

Dave,

Try this portable air compressor. It works well.
