Do the plastic window trims really work?
Greetings,
Who has the plastic window trim that are installed on the outside of the 2 front windows?
Does it reduce the sound of wind while driving?
Does it keep out rain while driving, or parked?
Or is it a gizmo accessory, that some may say "it looks cool."
Thanks,
Zugg

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
I have the WeatherTech window wind deflectors:
http://www.weathertech.com/store/mvprod ... &Year=2004
They allow me to have the window open a couple of inches, get some airflow without letting rain in. I've had them in several vehicles and I like them. They install in the window track, not on the outside - no tape needed.
I suspect I could get all the ventilation I need without them when driving. And, when parked I have many screened windows for ventilation. But, I still like them.

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply and the link!
So, with these in place, when driving, is the wind noise reduced, while the window is open a few inches?
Thanks,
Zugg

They made a Major Improvement on my Astro! Haven't seen a need as of yet for the Ford.

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
Zugg ,
I to have the Weather Techs and would not be without them , I have had one brand or another on all of my Vans and Trucks since the seventies and greatly appreciate the airflow , and reduction of noise . Probably one of the most overlooked feature's is their ability to run in rain and snowy conditions without getting moisture inside and on those dewey mornings , they prevent roof run off from soaking your arm and door panels . Just make sure that you crack the window opening about half of the width of vent .

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
I installed them on my Ford SMB to try to improve ventilation (since sadly the fan blows warm even at it's coolest setting). I returned them right away because in my highway test, the wind noise was the same with or without them. I'm sure they'd work well to keep water out in the rain, but for wind noise, I'd pass. (Maybe others have a different brand - I don't recall what I had).

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
JR you must have a diesel. Both my SMB and F250 do the same thing. I wish there was a solution besides flipping over to AC and turning it warmer to match the outside temp.

Re: Do the plastic window trims really work?
Nope, same problem exists with the V10 Gas engine. I think the air intake for the heater is just too close to the engine. Wish there was a workaround because my scanguage tells me running the AC costs me more than 1mpg - which is a big deal when you only get 11mpg.
