Junkpile well said about vintage but again there is a balance for example swapping in injection or a Hemi great idea. That be my choice however, a fuel tank or high end fuel pump. then you need the O.D. tranny then you need an adapter and or a Atlas but it may have a NP205 which I love, or even a divorced 205 which will work with a 2wd trans, BUT it all adds up. That total could be 5K PLUS! So yeah if the O.P. is a wrencher then by all means if he is going to farm it out to a shop then 14K may be tooooo much! That my friend is my pant load and dawers too!

Yes indeed, older vehicles are obviously better suited to those who are self sufficient. A Hemi would wake things up for sure, but the reason I didn’t suggest one is that the extra electronics would definitely increase the complications and cost. The cool thing about this era of van is how the main body and undercarriage remain virtually unchanged right through til ‘98 and with subtle differences until finalization in ‘03. So swapping in the engine, harness and fuel tank would be fairly straightforward and inexpensive if a suitable donor could be sourced on the cheap.
Cheers!

Like if you had a 1993 lying around with a good motor and a pooched tranny...

I test drove this van in November! Did anyone here end up getting it? At the time I drove it, the transfer case might have had some issues, which is why I decided not to purchase it as is.

It was a beautiful van though for someone who didn't mind the the "projects"/"adventures" it would provide in maintenance. Nice owner too.
