My aluminess bumper came with bolts that just physically would not fit. Come to find out, they buy 3/8 shouldered bolts and grind/machine them down. Apparently they forgot to do mine, and overnighted the right ones. Trust me, 3/8 may be "pretty close" but it isn't going to work with drilling, grinding, or pounding and destroying something.
The measurement I gave was from the bolt in the package. Guess they did not take it down to .340.

I inquired with Aluminess about buying 2 of these "rare" door hinge bolts- 10 bucks a piece plus 6 in shipping. Sounds like a lot but if you look at what a comparable 5/16" SS shoulder bolt costs from McMaster-Carr at around $7 each its not bad.

That hinge bolt is definitely one that you should just go through Aluminess for. We got one that wasn't machined down for an install on a van and it appeared that it would fit but there was no way it would go, so we contacted Aluminess and they had one sent next day, of course that one slid in no problems. Just save yourself the headache and buy it from them.

^^^^^^what he said......stainless shoulder screws are around $7/ea plus the machining time...

...may end up doing that myself. If anyone has an Aluminess one not installed can you post a pic? curious.......

Yes....the bolt/screw in question is a PITA......this thread will serve as a useful reference to future SMBer's that are running around in diapers today...and perhaps even their offspring.
