Flux in Fresno @ SMB

So hauled my ass out of bed at 4:00am and bombed it to Fresno. Hour early of course but with all the storms coming through I wasn't taking any chances on missing my appointment.

First thing I noticed is the place is jam packed with Sprinters. MB probably sends them Xmas cards. Got to sit in a few in the showroom and they are sweet for sure. Hopped in a low roof pop top Transit. Cozy in there, but certainly nice. With 4WD and that engine, it'll be a nice machine. A few E350's and chevy's in for work and some upgrades.

Brian took me back to see the classic and answered a few quick questions. So there is a steel frame that goes inside the fiberglass "hull". The hulls are being made by a boat builder, forget the name. I looked around for the german made rv body but didn't see it. There was something back near the show room I will peak at later.

The RB Classic will have the frame of the cutaway extending back behind it and Aluminess will make a special bumper for it. Pretty cool and good for them for keeping the dream alive. I am betting the Classic will be easy to insulate well and build out. Unfortunately, the completed unit was on a lift so I couldn't get a closer look at the finished product. Might go down early tomorrow and poke around. So many cool vans!!

Thanks for sharing the info and those shots. Looks like it's coming along nicely, if not slowly.

I'll get a few more tomorrow. Wanted to see how it bolts to the frame and such. I was a little groggy and overly excited all at the same time.

I was actually expecting the walls to be more vertical, rather than curved like the production body.

I kind of was too. I really can't tell from the pics whether they are straighter or not. What I do really like is how the wheel well shows the extra width. Imagine counters or whatever at regular depth in there and what kind of floor space that extra width will open up!

Thanks for sharing Flux.

How are they dealing with the side and back doors? Buying new from Ford? Seems like they would have some rigidity issues and movement trying to keep double doors operating correctly? They must really beef up the openings an build in a steel frame.

Didn't get another look at the Classic, but took was checking out the little Mercedes and they had some 80/20 quickframe cabinets and a bunch of L-Track in there.
