For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
I just purchased a Road Armor front bumper and it appears they did not send enough bolts to attach it and there are other bolts that I’m not sure what they are used for (perhaps to attach the winch?). They did not include any installation instructions.
In addition, the two piece brackets they sent cause the bumper to sit too far from the van body. If I try to install it without the brackets the distance away from the body is good but then the bumper sits several inches too high.
For those of you with this bumper can you let me know how yours is attached? Is it attached directly to the frame mounts or did Road Armor provide some brackets.
I have not purchased a winch yet but was wondering if I will be able to install the winch after the bumper is installed or would I have to remove the bumper?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Why not call Road Armor and ask them?

Re: For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
Thanks Skywagon, but couldn't contacting the manufacturer of the given product be the answer to just about every question raised on this forum?
Yes, I have contacted Road Armor and I'm waiting to hear back from them. In the meantime, I have seen some photos on this forum of vans with the same bumper and they appear to fit properly (closer) to the van so I was hoping that someone with this bumper would be able to tell me how it was attached and if they had a different type of mounting bracket.
Again, any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Re: For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
Johnf
I wasn't trying to be a wise-ass, and yes, calling the manufacturer would be the answer to a bunch of questions on the Forum. I'm surprised more folks don't do it.
I guess, like you, waiting around for a manufacturer to return your call gets old. Sometimes, I think that after they make the sale they figure why bother to take the time to reply.
My experience with Sportsmobile West has however, gratifyingly, been just the opposite.
Bill

Re: For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
Hi Bill,
I agree with you that after the sale some manufacturers are less interested in being helpful. Hopefully, when Road Armor returns my calls and e-mails they will be helpful, but I'm just trying to find out if others had this same problem so I can be ready to respond if they try to tell me that they sent me what was required for my application.
Thanks,
John

Re: For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
I think Jeffrey is one of the few forum members that sport the Road Armor bumpers. Unfortunately most SMB's have Aluminess. Hope you find your answer soon. Good luck.

Re: For those with a Road Armor Front Bumper…install questions
John, I had Road Armor send the bumper directly to SMB during my new build in '07. The install is fine, but I did not do it myself. I have the winch in it, too. I don't know anything about brackets, or if I have them. I will look at my rig tomorrow and let you know. I do like my front bumper very much.
Here's a shot of my front end the day I took delivery, still at SMB west. No lights installed yet.
