pretty cool
not an endorsment blah blah blah
Rob,
Thanks for your interest. my full pop tops usually come in around 250
pounds depending on what options you get. Our tops raise about three and a
half feet so that combined with a 12 or 16 inch roof you have more than
enough room to sit up in bed usually at least a foot taller than your head
when you sit upright in bed. We go through a lot of effort to keep the
material walls as wide as possibly this allows our upper beds to be about
8 inches wider than a smb and what they call elbow room is another 8
inches wider that combined about 8 feet of interior height gives you a
much roomier feel on the inside. Our tops are all electric we do this so
matter how much weight you put on a roof it will still go up and down.
When our tops are up they can easily support 4 people so snow load is
never an issue, neither is hardware bending. I am currently prototyping a
small pop top that will fit on any van and be very affordable it will be
in the 3 to 3500 range and weigh under 100 pounds. I attached a picture so
you can see what it will look like on a astro it is not completed,
obviously. I have not done any low profile roofs like SMB just because
once people see the raised roof they go that route. Lately I have been
working on all fixed tops like what smb calls a voyager top. Here are some
links to vans I have built.
