Generator oil change

Our newly acquired SMB, a 2012 Ford 4x4 E350, has a gas generator. I was reading in the manual that the oil should be changed every 8 hr of use. I watched a YouTube video and thought, No problem. But, the generator is fit really tight against the Aluminess bumper. I can barely access the oil cap and dip stick let alone replace the oil. I’m assuming this is a typical build - how do you do this?!

Every 8 hours? wow that's not long. Anyway, you can probably suck the oil out the dip stick tube or the fill plug.

There’s a drain plug on the bottom. I’m not sure how to get the oil back in.

That figure couldn't be right. I have a generator with a 2000 hour schedule. 8 hours is every night!

I’ll check the manual again. Haven’t really used the generator yet but that makes sense. Thanks.

I'm guessing that the initial oil change is probably 8 hours and following ones are probably in the hundreds. I seem to remember a couple hundred hours on RV generators I've had in the past, but just like brake fluid and tranny fluid almost no one ever changes them for the life of the vehicle. That doesn't mean you shouldn't, it just means I wouldn't be too religious about it.

That's correct - first oil change after 8 hr and then every 100 hr of operation. It's currently at 58 hr.
