Got my new van AND saw my stolen van on the same day!

What are the chances?!

Took delivery of my new van today. Spent about an hour screwing around with it before it was time for a beer. Spotted my stolen van on the way to the bar as I was on the freeway. Got off the freeway and tried to find it but it was gone. Now it's up to the South San Francisco police department.

Hey Greg,

How timely is that with all the discussion last week about theft prevention? Seems to me you have a good chance of getting your original van back if the low-lifes are tooling around town with it. I'm hoisting a beer that they're caught!

Best regards,

Jack

Thanks Jack. It was so weird, and such strange timing. At first I was like, hey a Sportsmobile....that looks just like my old one. Hmm. Once I saw the recalled solar panels on top, I knew it was mine. Guess they didn't catch on fire and kill anyone...yet. At this point, though, State Farm owns it. I just notified the police for fun. Sent my insurance agent an email for fun as well.

Hey Still - had a couple beers, but only to celebrate the arrival of the new van. Like I said above, State Farm owns the old one and my new one is much nicer.

What a weird day! Didn't expect the new one to arrive until late tomorrow at the earliest. Got a call at 2:53pm that it was here. Left work at 3:30, went to the transport broker place, inspected it, paid them, and drove away. Then, for the first time in ten months, I see my old van driving around South San Francisco. Unbelievable.

That's actually CA legal but I don't have $4000. Doing a lift kit instead!

Too freeking weird. That takes some real guts to drive a stolen van around the same city it was stolen from, and for ten months no less. I hope the bastards get caught and spend a long time in jail.

Met up with Robb, Big Greg, and some other people you know, for beers tonight. One theory that came up was that it hasn't been in the area for quite a while but came back to visit friends or family in the area. Certainly could be the case. Definitely not the original plates on it.

Well, it is easter, and wiki (slightly edited) says:

Easter, which celebrates GCVTs van resurrection from the dead...

Man, that's crazy! Think how mad you would've been though if you weren't getting another van that day. I'm sure it eased the blow. Still, crazy.
