All accurate! I paid $35K for my 2005 SMB in 2011. High top, gaucho bed, etc. in great shape. Had to go get it in Las Vegas, and I live in Colorado. Sadly only
got to use it actively for about two years before getting sick enough to stop. I still have that van, and am still hoping that surgery will improve my situation!
Still have plans for improvements ( and savings to pay for it), which will hopefully allow me to resume my “ joyride”! Until I know for certain that I will never
be able to use it again, except for short trips here and
there, I’ll never sell. Hope springs eternal as they say.
But likely will be on the forum in about 6 years. I waited longer than that before finding mine!
My advice would be to grab one if it’s even close to what you want. Otherwise you could be waiting a very
long time without! At least I got to REALLY enjoy it for
a few years, and will ( with luck) be able to GO! Again
pretty soon.
Best of luck to you, and I hope you find one you love!

When I first got my 2010 Sportsmobile and tried to justify the price, someone had said..."when you're older, what would the "value" be of the experiences you have in this all terrain camper with your family/friends?" Priceless!

How true.

That said, certainly supply and demand move most all prices. Tough to find great clean Sportsmobile Ford Econoline E-350's that have been well taken care of at low pricing.
This great residual value is one other reason to buy.

This was the approach that I took. I have a very nice overlanding Jeep that I have enjoyed for years and is very capable. But that just led to a desire for a Sportsmobile. I mostly wanted the van for when I retire in a few years and will need a rig that I can travel in more full time.

Last year a van popped up on Facebook in my area that was exactly what I wanted at an absolutely insane, killer low price. I still had time before my retirement, but I jumped on it and bought it quickly without any regrets. There can be killer deals out there. You just need to watch for them, be patient, and be ready to pull the trigger as soon as something pops up - early bird gets the worm and all that.

I agree with this and I would also add, in my opinion, because of the current mile post of the economic cycle there are a lot of folks able to hand over 65k, 75k, or 100k dollars at the moment for an "overlanding" vehicle. It seemed like it was a lot different market when I bought my used van before #VANLIFE happened and the economy was very different. An example of this is, back then (2010) everywhere I went, by far, most people didn't know what it was. Over the last year or two most people will name it as a Sportsmobile and I don't even have any branding on it anymore.

And I think the corollary to this is, just wait for a recession and you should be able to pick one up a lot cheaper. There are so many people buying high dollar rigs these days - and borrowing money to pay for them. I bet we'll see a bunch of them for sale at a significant discount when the next recession comes. Save your pennies! A local acquaintance had a 10-year note on his SMB. That is insane.

I've been waiting for a recession for years now. Some nonsense is keeping it afloat. The auto loan issue isn't going to tank the economy but it should create chaos for used vehicles....soon

Just like swampland, someone is willing to pay what its value is to them.
