We will get it on, bigger concern is finding a canvas that fits. Not many people making canvas for a 79' anymore...

If you can't get a new pop-top uninstalled for a DIY install and you don't want to pay the price to get it installed, you are at the mercy of anyone who has one to sell.

While old tops may not be worth $4,000-$5,000, what is your choice other than paying $8,000-$10,000 and waiting months to get it.

I was thinking that a sail maker could do it.

Also, the guys who do the Pink Jeep tours have custom tents on the back of their Jeeps. They could fabricate one.

Used SMB top or talk Derek into shipping you one of his CCV kits...

..and there is another new top kit that folks here are developing.....search for user MSD I think....

When I talked to derek a year or two ago, a diy option was still gonna be $6k+. So not too good of an option in my opinion, once you factoring in how you would have to get the top somehow and either install it on the spot or transport it to wherever you are going to install it.

I think MSD has something in the works, lcated close to Ujoint, which could be a gold mine if done right.

MGmetlaworks has had one in the making too, but focus is probably more on the transit now.

I don't think that's a waste of time at all. Sounds like creativity in action. My son is probably playing Grand Theft Auto. THAT is a waste of time.

Somebody in here had a new canvas stitched up somewhere in the NE for the crazy price of $800.

The top on mine was $1800 bit that included the rest of the Sporty with it.

That's not crazy....I've heard rumors of SMB selling the canvas for $800. When I was at SMB west I inquired with Jonathan....$2800 installed only...now that's getting crazy.

If anyone out there has a Juki and some free time perhaps making insulated canvas for SMB tops may be an opportunity.

I probably passed the receipt on to Marc (Twogone) but SMB North sold us a black canvas with 6 windows including full zip out on the front 3 for around $800. Charging so much for installation is robbery. It's a days work for one person with need for extra hands once or twice.

I think it's $2300 installed.. still a lot, but not as bad as $2800.
