Re: I'm new from Germany
Hi Nessie,
Welcome to the forum!
You will have fun here I am sure
On the Sprinter front the advantages aren't that great when you actually come to look carefully at all the aspects. As AndrewST mentioned the off road capabilities of the factory 4x4 Sprinter aren't that great... All depends on what you plan to do...
Here in Switzerland the E Series Fords are common in Ambulances and Fire vehicles I have noticed some in other European countries too so it is quite Feasible to import I think... Than it is just a question of $$$
See you round Nessie

Re: I'm new from Germany
Welcome! This is fun watching the forum go international. (And reading the bilingual replies.).
This October when we have the nationwide Sportsmobile Forum Meet Up we now need to extend it to be global. The three of you need to hold a meet up in Europe! (Depending how close you all are.). Are there campgrounds on Bodensee? :-D

Jage, from what I have seen in Germany, Sprinters are good vans but not real offroader's... or at least not as efficient as the SMB seems... way to big/long and not enough body clearance...
Nessie
Willkommen an der forum.
Didn't know that in Germany, register and insure an imported vehicule was so hard and costy...
I supposed you already went to the exibition in Bad Kissingen/D to see what is available locally?
Takes place 11-14 june 09, I should attend on thusday 11.

Hi Andrew!
Thank you for the offer at the "German" to help.Sicher I like the opportunity to benefit.
Quite right, the Sprinter is an excellent transporter and economically unterhalten.Aber to off-road to have fun, he is not the right thing
The fun with a 6.0 diesel in a relatively compact, such as Van Ford E-350 is certainly unique
Viele Grüße Nessie

Saabman Hello!
Thank you for the "Welcome"!
The sprinter will work with the 4x4 is offered as reference only Schlechtwegetauglich to be and that there is no off-roader!
There are also companies that offer a conversion (Achteitner, Iglhaut etc.), apart from that one with a few extras, like Diffenrenztialsperre bigger tank as quickly to over € 35,000 .- (Euros, not Dollars) comes, I like the suspension of front axle not.

To really have an European meet-up there needs to be more than one US-van... could help
There is also a 3rd swiss with an Astro van... makes 2
