Insurance?

Hey all... new to this site, and I don't even have myself a SMB. I've been dreaming over one for YEARS, and I think I'm getting closer.

Trying to do my research. I'm wondering what ya'll are paying on monthly insurance for one. It it like auto insurance, or RV insurance?

My agent "guesstimated" about $1000 every 6 months, but that sounds WAY high.

Thanks

Re: Insurance?

We've had State Farm for years. Our SMB is listed as an RV and the annual rate is about $800 full coverage.

Without any of the discounts, multi-vehicle, multi-line, safe driver, longterm customer, etc. it would be closer to $2000/year.

+1 on State Farm. When we had ours, a 2008 4x4 SMB, SF considered it as an RV as well and we paid about $68 a month. The SMB was valued at $110,000.

Re: Insurance?

Primary vehicle (RV or not), 2-wheel drive modified Ford E250 RB 36 van estimated value of $63,000 State Farm estimate (for accident free, no males in household under 35, multi-policy holder, driven less than 7,500 miles/year) was $361 every six months. That would go down about $20 every six months if it was a second vehicle and used as an RV (i.e., driven under 7,500 miles per year). This is for the Pacific Northwest. State Farm's on-line price search for a comparible was $469 every six months. All with 100/300/100 liability and comprehensive/collision deductible of 100/250

Re: Insurance?

Just purchased insurance through Progressive. Best rate for us and easy online quote with SMB specific options. We tried to go with American Families, they have our other vehicles and home insured but they just couldn't match Progressive and we were unsure if they would really cover a total loss since they weren't familiar with the conversion. Might end up getting an empty ford van in a loss.
