Light Security

Looking at Jayson's removable light setup got me to thinking about light security- how does everyone keep their lights from getting unbolted and disappeared?

...make the van really tall.... ??

Our bar will lock down as a first measure of security.

The bolts that hold the lights on are between two mounting brackets and are behind the bar. To unbolt a light from the exterior will not be a simple thing. (I will post a pic when I can)

Jage,

I used the security nuts listed towards the bottom of the linked page. A nice simple design, though kind of a PITA to install because of clearance issues with the bumper, especially while trying to keep the lights aligned. Though it can be a PITA, I feel that makes it that much less attractive to steal my lights.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember which size I ordered.

I would assume that parking in our driveway would be the most location most susceptible to loss (I actually never thought about it). We park our van with the Hi-Lift jack (which is mounted to the front bumper) within an inch of the garage door. In this spot, it would be difficult (but not impossible) to get to our Hella lights. Hopefully, no one is interested in them enough to go to the work of actually unbolting them...they are also virtually hidden when so close to the garage door.

(To park this close to the garage door, I mounted a convex mirror on one of the rafter tails above and to the left of the garage door...this lets me see how close I am from inside the van.)

Jack-
Do you guys also have the Reunel front bumper on your 01? If so, how did you mount the Hi-lift?

thanks

We ordered our van with the Reunel bumper and Hi-Lift combination. I don't know if the stock Reunel bumper already has the "cut-outs" for the jack but, if so, it would be simple to drill and add the lock on the tube. Here is what ours looks like:

Hopefully, this photo might at least give you some ideas.

Really simple. There's a sign hanging right next to my sportsmobile that says "If you can read this, you're in range".

Works well, go figure.

That's awesome.

Here are my lights currently:

I'm thinking about drilling the large bolt and running a cable, and putting a lock nut over the small bolt, however, there is still the cross bolt that holds the light to the mount (just outside the detail photo).

The good news is the lights are simple to remove- pull the cross bolt and unplug the wire and I can store inside the van. Not something I want to do regularly.
