Need a booster step

Has anyone added a single step below the running boards on a SMB? My wife's knees don't like the big step up on to the running boards as a first step into or out of the van. Anyone added some sort of secondary step to fill part of the gap? I'm thinking something with a spring load of sorts so it retracts when we drive so it doesn't get torn off by a rock or small car we drive over. Thanks for any suggestions. I tried, grow longer legs and that didn't go over well.

Re: Need a booster step

Try a step stool that can be placed inside somewhere. Ones that attach outside have a bad habit of leaping out and hitting things, and there are numerous times a stool is useful at other locations around the van or in camp.

I use one of the little kinds with storage in it. But others like the ones that fold up for easy storage.

Re: Need a booster step

We used this prior to installing AMP steps. Worked well and packed tight.

If you want a slicker setup try Zeta's automated step.

We use a similar one. Works great and folds flat for easy storage between the door and cabinet.

Re: Need a booster step

Oh hell, I skipped over Zeta's link thinking it was the 'ad' video for some real retractable steps. Thanks for the belly laugh Z. That is hilarious. Definitely thinking outside the step.

Need a booster step

We've got one of the black folding steps also, can get them almost anywhere, camping world has them. You can also find the one featured in the video at any Wall Mart, or if you want to save some coin, try the dumpster behind any frat house around the country.... Zeta...that's ALMOST too ghetto...

Re: Need a booster step

I was in an RV place recently and they had those folding step stools in lots of colors besides black (red, green, yellow, etc).
