What are your planned uses for it?

Own a 1997 E-250 RB (Quigley 4x4) with the 5.4L in it, and while it can cruise comfortably on the highway, every now and then wish I had something with a little more torque especially in hilly terrain.

While the new 4.6L has about the same power as my older 5.4L, around here the general consensus seems that the 4.6L really lacks power, especially for 4x4 conversion or hauling.

My personal $0.02.

Edit: I'd also point out- You're never going to drive an Econoline for its fuel efficiency. Prices between 4.6L & 5.4L Vans seem to be almost identical.

If "work" includes towing anything on a regular basis, or hauling anything that is heavy, I might even recommend finding an E-350 with the V-10.

Something else to consider is that I think vans after 2009 came with a better 5R110 transmission than the older 4R100 or 4R75W transmission, but someone else would have to confirm that for me. It's just something to be aware of.

At least. I see a lot of people come to forums and are hung up on a certain van. Don't be. Ford vans are everywhere. I could find you 25 good contenders in 10 minutes if I knew exactly what you wanted.

One should ONLY buy a Ford van if it checks exactly every box you need it to.

Good luck!

I'll be reaching out to you in a few years when I need to find a 2009+ 50K mile V10 E-350 with power options that isn't white and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Although I did just find a '97 7.3L ambulance... 12K miles, $7.5K. Posted in the craigslist ads here... So I guess miracles do happen.

Current van I have is actually my dads... I figure he's trying to get me to fix it up for him with some blood sweat and tears before he decides it's a really nice van and wants it back!

Any time. Glad to help anyone find anything other than a diesel. I don't know them. As for that $7500 one you better act fast if that's what you want.....and don't think it's gonna stop costing you at $7500. That sounds kinda harsh but I don't mean for it to, just the truth.

Eric, so when did this philosophy kick in? After you bought your second van? Or was it your third, or fourth, or ....?

Ha! It's never kicked in. I'm an outlier from my own advice. I buy stuff with wheels when I get the impulse. Most people I know are the opposite from me, though, so I recommend finding the right one.

Excellent. Find me a 2014 V10 XLT cargo van. Less than 50,000 miles, totally unmolested, no rust.

2014? You're too demanding. Here's you a 2012:

And yeah, you know it's probably gonna be white.

Here's you an 09 that's already Quigleyfied though:
