Re: need to protect front grill

I've used 1/4" square wire screen, available at most hardware stores. Basically just pull the grille and line the backside and either zip tie or wire it, reinstall. I've used it on 4 vehicles for many years, but on the Sporto I used 1/2" plastic square screen just because it was handy. I doubled and offset it to get smaller holes (keeps the bees and things that damage the radiator fins out).

I guess only driving in reverse is out of the question?

Re: need to protect front grill

Would some fiberglass window screen material do the same job? It may not be rigid enough to stop road debris from damaging the grill however, unless you create some sort of standoff.

Re: need to protect front grill

Ya looking at protecting the grill or the radiator here??? Tough to protect the grill, but jage has the right idea for the radiator. Putting in a billit grill does a good job too. Keeps the big hunks out of the expensive parts....

No suggestions, but took a look at your pictures - gorgeous van! I love the browns. Great condition, I can see why you want to keep it nice.

Re: need to protect front grill

Thanks for the ideas and the kudos on my van, I just made a dual clamps that will hold 2 3ft poles on each corner of the bumper and attached wire mesh to it. after building it i didnt like the way it looks. go figure. i think im going with the temp wire mesh billet grill idea easy enough rubber spacers and tie straps.
Thanks again
Ron

The only vehicle I own with a cooling problem is also the only vehicle I've never done this to- my Jeep Wrangler.

The SMB water temp actually seems to flucuate less than 10º(F) regardless of how I'm driving.
