Non-plastic fresh water tank suggestions?
Greetings,
I am looking for a non-plastic fresh water holding tank.
Polyethylene water tanks are very common among the RV markets.
Steel water tanks are nice and also very expensive.
Is there anyone out there with a non-plastic fresh water tank?
Any advice or links would be appreciated!
Now if only I could get a fresh water tank made by Clean Canteen!
Thanks,
Zugg

Because polycarbonate plastic contains bispherol A, which mimics the actions of certain hormones. It leaches into the contents of the containers that are made of it and are thought to be a health risk. Some uses are baby bottles, plastic water containers and the linings of metal cans. A new awareness has got people thinking about how to avoid this plastic. The SMB water tank is a contender.

Hi,
Thank you Joanna for your thoughts.
Another type of plastic is polyethylene and that too is used for water tanks.
It is also known to leach chemicals into the water.
Take a look at this company:
www.lifekind.com
They have a great list and descriptions of chemicals to avoid, for your health.
Looks like I will be installing metal water tanks in my van.
This forum stimulates many topics, ideas, and opinions.
It looks like there are many well informed SMB users out there.
And that is great!
The more we each learn and share, the better for all.

That's an exhaustive (and exhausting) list.
I'd like to know if you're able to find a metal tank.
Joanna

I got an email on this, one of those well written spam things that goes around (thanks Mom!) and in a few minutes found a bunch of information that plastic bottles and the like are harmless, where I could find nothing to substantiate the email- is there any real proof that this is true and not just some new conspiracy theory?

Jeff,
I'm not very good at inserting e-destinations into the Forum messages, but here are two sites for information about plastics, including ABS:
PlasticFreeBottles.com
and
lifewithoutplastic.com
The thinking seems to be that ABS is so hard, that the leaching issue is not as great. Or maybe non-existent (though, never say never).

Jage,
Since I'm past my reproductive years, I don't have to worry about chromosomal damage to myself or low sperm count in my husband. Likewise no small children in my charge. But if I had a young family, I'd think about finding a better water tank for the SMB.

From what the wife and I have read, the jury is still out on whether BisphenolA is a problem or not. Interestingly, Nalgene has stopped using BPA in their new bottles. They are purchasing the new stuff from Eastman
Chemicals I think. Seems like there were enough people concerned that from a marketing standpoint they felt the need to change.
