Quietest free flowing muffer/exhaust system

Looking for some info on mufflers or cat back systems.. I'd like to gain performance but not necessarily more sound. Anyone go down this road with success? Most likely I'm going to install the AFE first then some type of free flowing exhaust.

Re: Quietest free flowing muffer/exhaust system

I have put on both, except the MagnaFlow on an '94 5.8L van and on my brother's 5.4L Expedition, and my current V10 has Banks.

The Magnaflow was great, but I would worry about it on a V10. Banks did some serious work tuning the muffler to make the V10 sound like a big motor (It actually sounds like a Cummins under high-load, low RPM). Every other muffler I've heard on the V10 makes it sound like a loud Honda. Not like a fart can, just like somebody took a V6 Honda and turned up the volume. I wouldn't call it obnoxious, but it just doesn't sound right. That said.... I also have the PowerPack headers, and they may have played with the tube routing at the collectors to adjust the exhaust note.

Well that's my fear, my buddy had some type of muffler/system on a V10 and it sounded like an import car. The V10's don't have that throaty sound of a V8 and my friends V10 was obnoxious to ride in. Hummm more to think about....

Do they install a free flow muffler on class C motorhomes with the V10's. I've heard a few of those start up and they have a different tone than my van for sure.

Re: Quietest free flowing muffer/exhaust system

I had an RBP muffler for my 7.3 laying around and decided to put it on my V10, it had 4" ends on it so I just made a reducer for both and put it on. I hardly noticed any sound difference. The V10's are a super quiet motor.

It's the same muffler. They sound the same to me. But the Banks system is pretty common on the larger motorhomes.
