RUST!

Living in the PNW we get rain. Our vehicles get soaked. But rain, wet roads etc happens everywhere.

But my van looks like a rusting POS underneath.

Does everyone have a rusty underside on their rig?

Just noticed this after snapping pics of my onboard compressor set-up.

My diff, in floor storage, air bag compressor, wheels caps, lug nuts etc, all looking bad in less than a year.

Cheap crap paint on everything, grrr... Cheap plating on the wheel caps & lug nuts grrr.

Blasting/sanding, painting needs to be in my future soon!

Anyone else?

Re: RUST!

Dude, I'm from Indiana. If there aren't cancerous rust holes completely through the body I don't even notice. Until things you NEED are falling off, don't sweat it. But, yes, my van looks similar if not worse.

**Hmm, noticeable difference in our XL storage...

Re: RUST!

In dry California my van has rust similar to yours. Nothing to worry about.

Re: RUST!

All my vehicles look like that. About once a year I use Rust Oleum rattle can black on the underside. No big deal.

Re: RUST!

I do the same, clean & paint. Stay on top of it & you'll be fine.

Re: RUST!

I would be more concerned about rust forming around where they ran screws through the body to attach the floor, than worrying about a little surface rust on chassis parts.

Re: RUST!

It is odd that your underfloor storage is rusting like that. Mine is like Jage's and is coated with a thick bedliner type coating.

Probably rattle can paint on mine. Not up to the duty.
Nice paint on the inside though, in white for visibility.

Re: RUST!

Except for the underfloor storage, everything looks normal to me.

You can get a rubberized under-body rattle can paint. I tried Rustoleum bedliner on my fenders, and while it looked great when new, it couldn't stand the blasting from road sand when driving over the passes at speed.

Re: RUST!

Brush on Herculiner, I've put in on/in Jeeps with cleaned up rust. I prefer brush on when working over my head in tight spaces.
