SMB tire recommendations for snowy off-road conditions??
Any suggestions for an SMB tire that is a good compromise between rough dry off-road and snowy conditions? I live at 9000' and run into snow 8 months out of the year.
When I bought the SMB it had (and still has) Michelin LTX M/S (LT285/75 16) tires. They are fine on the road and for most summer conditions, but they aren't very good in snow - I had some particularly difficult times on spring backcountry skiing trips where the tread wasn't aggressive enough, and the rubber too hard to grip hardpacked snow and ice.
My worry with classic snow tires is they'll get chewed up very quickly in drier conditions - but the softer rubber is a good part of what makes them work in snow, it seems. Not sure there is a good solution, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
