Re: SMBs in National Park Campgrounds: Tent sites ok?

Thanks everyone! The thoughts are mostly inline with what I was thinking. We booked the tent sites where there was no other option, because all the other reservable sites were already booked (Grand Canyon Mather CG). But, the site description clearly states and shows that it has a parking pad and can fit two vehicles. It's not a "walk in" site, which are always clearly marked as such.

I have to tracks of thought about tent site vs RV site neighbors. On the one had, tent site neighbors usually are more noisy, while RVers tend to hang out in their RV and are quieter. I've had some idiot, noisy tent neighbors up all night drinking, and I've had some idiot RV neighbors that run their generator all the time even though they were clearly in a "no generator" loop. When confronted, they said "We're just running it to take our showers and make coffee" (they ran it for 2+ hours).

But, I kind of still identify more with the tent campers and enjoy the camaraderie that can develop. They are also easier to meet and chat with since they are outside. RVers are usually nice, but often a good bit older and don't always want to talk.

Generic distinction: does one go to the outdoors to sit indoors? One of our favorite aspects of the SMB is how you have to be outside 'cuz there's no room, just like our old Westy.

That's probably NOT a quote that SMB wants to use in their marketing material! I guess that's a "backhanded compliment."
