Solid Waste Bags? (Split)

Speaking of grey water, does anyone know what that stuff is they put in wag bags that soaks up liquid and then gels? I thought maybe it was the same as the paint spill stuff, or some kitty litter, or the oil soaker-upper, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's all different. Be nice if it's biodegradable.

But I wanted to get some to use in slop buckets.

TIA,
Rob

Re: Solid Waste Bags? (Split)

I picked up some forest service bags in Oregon thinking I'd learn something... well it turned out to be a combo of ziplocks, brown paper sacks and regular old kitty litter. I haven't wanted to try one yet.

I used poo powder backcountry skiing in Idaho , 3 dudes - 5 days - 1 yurt so it was a good test...worked great had to pack it out with us and didn't notice any odor.

An old thread but here's some info.........

The stuff that's used in the medical business is called isolyzer. It's commonly used to turn waste blood into a gel or other bio-waste liquids into solid waste (gel) for landfill disposal.

There is probably an equivalent product for commercial use but I have no idea what it's called...

Kitty litter. At least that's what's in the bags I got from Oregon NFS- double ziplock and kitty litter. Haven't been forced to try them yet!

Re: Solid Waste Bags? (Split)

Adding cat litter does help anyway. Whatever is in the bags I've seen turns liquids into a gel. The cat litter just contributes in the all around function of the bags.

Re: Solid Waste Bags? (Split)

we'd been using the store bought powder but switched this season to A&H Kitty Litter. It is a fresh mellow pine scent and actually the wife prefers it over the other powder. I also purchased a bulk of the wag-bags ($1 ea) and if we get into an area that insists on a commercial "bag" for solid waste disposal we can prove we've got them on board...other wise it's our DIY wag-bags of 2 gallon trash bag+litter+brown sandwich bag. No smell, no fuss...better yet...
my wife's idea : ) She will not have an RV that has to have a tank-flush waiting at some dump site. 30 years later, i luv her more each day.

Re: Solid Waste Bags? (Split)

Thanks for the tip; think we might even have some around.

But do you now feel the need to install a scratching post as well ?
