Suggestions: stand alone inexpensive carport for 4x4 SMB
Moved into a house with a nice parking pad for my eb50 ford 4x4 smb. Was hoping someone went down this route before and can shed some light on the topic.
Looking for a stand alone carport canopy to cover the rig. Height is my main concern. Just want to make sure its tall enough to clear the top of my rig.
Was hoping to buy one of the carports on Amazon.
TIA!

A ready made canopy will definitely be the easiest and cheapest way to go, but if you can't find one that fits your rig and space, consider this place where you can design your own, and then buy the right connectors. You then locally buy the pipes to make the canopy. I used this outfit to make a canopy for my teardrop on the side of my house. Not a cheap way to go, but you can customize to your requirements.
After I made mine, I made cement footings around the base of each leg to give it extra stabilty in the event of high winds.

I'm a big Shelter Logic fan. I have the "Barn Style" and having sides is excellent, as is just bolting it to the concrete.
Regardless, they make a good product.

What height?
I'm assuming most 10x20 aren't tall enough.

Re: Suggestions: stand alone inexpensive carport for 4x4 SMB
In NM you can't go a mile down any road without passing a dealer for metal framed and metal roofed carports for $895 installed. I have looked at them and they are solid. From the one's I've seen in use for several years, they last well. They are available in different heights, configurations and sizes. My neighbor had one configured with ends and sides, basically a double garage. Still going strong.
If you live anywhere with even a bit of UV, the cheap fabric ones don't hold up very long. Out here with the high UV and lots of wind, you'd be lucky to get a year out of one. They are pretty wobbly as well.

^im by the beach. Was hoping to get vinyl or something similar due to its cost efficiency. But I hear what you're saying

Re: Suggestions: stand alone inexpensive carport for 4x4 SMB
The Shelter Logic barn style I have is made taller by extensions that came with the kit, and longer by adding ribs- then they make the canvas to order.
I'm sure some manufacturers would do the same for a car port to make it taller- keep in mind you want it taller than the height of the roof corners at the width, by some margin. At one point my SMB technically fit in my smaller Shelter Logic, but there was not physically any way to possibly pull it in to park (exact center perfectly straight etc).
Of course I keep putting things on the van that make it taller, which is a whole other problem...

Those shelter logics looks awesome. But I've got beer taste on beer budget.
You think our 4x4 smb will fit in this?

6' 8" side height, but its 12'3" wide, so your usable height is greater than the side height, provided you center your rig.
I'd say time for some graph paper, but maybe that just shows how old I am.
There's probably an app that can diagram it for you.

Height aside, it doesn't look like it will stay up over the rig in the first place.
