Tire pressure

I've seen a few comments on the forum about tire pressure but with a quick search, I didn't see anybody mention the manufacturers tire pressure charts (forgive me if I missed it.)

Each tire manufacturer should have a tire load / inflation chart with their recommendation as to what pressure you should have in your tire for a given load. It varies by size and type of tire.

Here's a link to the Michelin chart. See page 22 (twenty fifth physical page.)

Yes, covered here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1582&start=22

Even though each manufacturer published their own load inflation table, the values in the cells are all the same, they get them from the TRA. The only thing they do is make sure the max load rating of the tire (e.g. D, E whatever) is applied and they don't recommend any pressures/loads greater than the tire can handle. But the physics of what PSI for a given size can handle a given load are the same. (assuming the tire construction can handle it, which is the max rated load)

Re: Tire pressure

I'm glad you brought it up. I think that gets forgotten about easily.

And on a similar note.... Does everyone know that rims have their own ratings for both weight and PSI? If you don't think it matters, take at look at one of my take-offs. It was an Alcoa rated for 80 psi but under 2500 pounds. I actually cracked both Alcoas. The other one cracked in the rim so it wouldn't hold air anymore but with the help of some Loctite its now my spare.

Re: Tire pressure

Yes that's why I got the ATX Mojave wheels rated @ 3100lb. I forget their psi rating. Old wheels were cracked!!!!! Remove your rims and inspect them!!

Re: Tire pressure

In addition to the cracks, the stud holes look obround. Was it ever run with loose lugnuts?

Yes it was, a long time before they cracked. The outer wheel wasn't seated when the lugnuts were tightened (they were even torqued properly, but the rim had caught on the stud threads!). I actually didn't catch it until AFTER getting home from a 1000+ mile weekend trip in the snow, and heard a tire squeak at low speeds.

Since it's hub-centric, and the hub didn't wear, I wasn't worried about the elongated holes.
