Trailer Transport 4x4 SMB through the USA

Hi guys,

my SMB (EB) has been converted to 4x4. Now it has to go on its way to europe/germany.

As it is by far faster and cheaper the oversea shipping is organized from Miami FL.

But right now it is still in Portland (OR). The guy responsable for the shipping just found out (having the measurements already since some months) that the SMB is - at least he says so - to big (high) and heavy for a normal car transporter trailer.

This was the calculated and rather cheap way to bring it from OR to FL.

Since he found out he is looking for a new way to have it transported across the US. Up to now with not much success.

Do you have any suggestions? (PM or public) Companies? Means of transport? Anything?
Budget is not to high as conversion, transport, taxes, toll ... are summing up quickly.

Thanks a lot! Waiting here without the shipping even started drives me crazy!

Philipp

Just sell it to me and you would not have to worry anymore.

Are you only interested in having it trailered? I remember someone on this forum offering to fly and drive and I think Ramsey (Agileoffroad) said he hired someone to pick up vans that were out of the area for a relatively decent price.

(I was the one who offered to drive.) I'd consider driving it for you to the east coast, if you could use the port of Baltimore, Philadelphia or New York. (I live in Philadelphia.) But I'm guessing maybe it isn't registered or insured, since you are exporting it? That would negate the driving option. Shipping it would probably cost as much as buying a one-way ticket and fuel cost, though. If you were shipping from the east coast it might have made more sense to have UJoint in NC do the conversion. A lot closer to Miami than Oregon is! :-)

Driving it in general would be ok. But as You said: No insurance and No registration.

Selling is No option.

I needed a conversion using a max of original Ford parts. German registration is not easy to get. But that is not my topic here.

Any Other ideas?

I wonder if transport via train is an option? I have no idea what something like that would cost.

Re: Trailer Transport 4x4 SMB through the USA

In case driving is an option, I think it's possible to get an inexpensive temporary movement permit in the state of origin (e.g. in this case Oregon [origin/Oregon get it? Never mind...]) that will be honored by all states and it's also possible to get short-term insurance.

There are outfits that will haul whatever you have on a solo trailer. Try doing a web search for trailer transport or trailer shipping.
Here's an example:
http://www.trailershippers.com/

Call them and ask if they or an outfit they know can provide the power and the trailer to haul your SMB on.

Also, search for car shippers and see who might be able to provide trailer transport for your vehicle. Shipping an individual vehicle this way will be more expensive than using a car carrier, but it might be safer for your vehicle. I've often decided against car carriers due to the potential for break-ins, theft and other damage. I always would opt for an enclosed trailer if possible, but it might not be possible due to the size of the SMB.
