Trasharoo alternatives?

I am on my second trasharoo in three years. I think it is a great product and the customer service is outstanding.

Unfortunately, in Utah, the sun quickly triumphs. Both of mine have faded and deteriorated within months to the point where you can easily tear the fabric with your hands.

Is there a more robust version of this type carrier? I am looking for ways to maximize my not-in-the-van storage. I have used my trasharoo primarily for carrying wet waders and wading boots. When those items spend the night in the van, you sure know it . . . .

I am wondering if I could re-task one of those spare tire bike racks for a different purpose.

Any ideas?

I'm looking at buying one for that exact same purpose. Are they difficult to remove and install as needed?

Yeah, don't leave it on the back.

I had one for years, only used when needed, then decided just to leave it on, it then only lasted less than 6 months.

New one stays inside unless needed. Only two clips to install.

If you dont mind taking it on and off, probably ok. I used mine quite a bit so just left it on. Also, ~$45 isnt too bad for what you get.

Check out the Truckruck, made with military spec material which doesn't fall apart in the sun. We've got about 7k miles on a trip from Seattle to Cabo and after a light rinse, the truck ruck looks like new again. It also has cam straps (much easier to take on/off) as opposed to the plastic buckles on the trasharoo which I've seen break.

I had a trasharoo prior to this, which lasted about 10 months, 18,000 miles until it fully fell apart.

If you're looking for a place to store small objects like recovery gear (shackles, gloves, tow strap,...), I've had one of these spare tire covers on my Bronco for years and years, and it's still in pretty good shape.

Much easier to have your recovery gear handy, rather than having to dig through all your storage areas while stuck on the trail, trying to remember where you put that tow strap.
