undercoating/rustproofing recommendations?
Does anyone have experience and recommendations for anti-corrosion treatments for undercarriage?
I've got a relatively new Sprinter that has seen very little wet weather so far, and wondering if it's useful to treat in some way before I start rolling around in winter conditions, highway chemicals etc.
HT: 1der for posing this question.

Fluid film. Great stuff but mechanics will hate you if you have work done underneath! Seriously, it is a tremendous product.

ACF-50 is another option. I believe it makes less mess than Fluid Film.

We have a salt brine pre treatment put on the roads before the snow flies. Then salt and sand after plowing.
Needless to say, with modern temps floating around freezing, the roads end up with puddles of battery acid-like slush.

Thanks for the thoughts.
SMB tells me that the Sprinters are very well coated and they never see rust (they do on the Fords). Just wash it off every once in awhile, they say, esp the springs.
I will cross post to sprinter forum and see if this is the experience of others.

I've used two Lanolin based products. Lanox MX4 and Fluid Film. The Lanox seeemed to dry out too quickly. I just put the FF on and it is thicker, almost like thin honey, and seems like it might last longer as a result.
The lanolin based products are nice because they require very little prep, they soak/travel to areas you can't get to, environmentally friendly.
I put on van on a tarp to spray the FF, with a gun, and it didn't drip at all. FYI
It makes the whole undercarriage look wet and black, I can't imagine rust taking hold anywhere that is treated. I'm hoping for two winters out of one coat of FF.

Sprinter factory undercoating
The entire underside of our 2016 4x4 Sprinter arrived with a thick factory-applied undercoat. Any type of aftermarket undercoating would be covering that material, not painted metal.

Two reasons the factory stuff is an imperfect solution:
True sprayed on oil based rustproofing is squirted in behind body panels through a large number of holes drilled and afterwards plugged by the installer.
It also creeps into hidden seams.
Try painting a car that has been oiled. Impossible to get the oil out of the seams and the paint to adhere.

I’ve been considering POR-15 for the underbody area. I used it where my top rubbed through the roof paint. Seems very strong, but still too soon to tell how it will hold up.
