What's the best way to get into Sportsmobiles?
Okay, the door.
But beyond the easy answer: A friend mentioned she'd met some very nice "retired hippies" in the desert with Sportsmobiles. I've been crawling all over the net reading about them ever since. I'm fascinated with the idea of traveling around in one.
What would you recommend would be a fun way/place to see them in person? I don't just want to see new ones, I'd love to see how real people actually use them. Maybe take a look inside a few...talk to some owners.... Any suggestions for me? Also, can I rent one to try it out?
Thanks so much.
Cheers from Catagaie in Santa Monica, California (Los Angeles-adjacent)
P.S. I'm 61 years young, not a hippie - but I went to UC Berkeley in the People's Park days!

Kill two birds with one stone, look for listings in your price range then go check them out, drive them. If you're shopping or want to see new go to SMB Fresno.

You ask, What's the best way to get into Sportsmobiles?
I like going in thru the side doors!
But, If you're near Santa Barbara, you can see the rig of another aging hipster.

Re: What's the best way to get into Sportsmobiles?
Keep your eyes open on craigslist. I got mine for $3500 on there down in San Diego. Its spartan compared to some of the rigs on here(no 4x4, but diesel), but so far it has not failed me once and has already lead to some amazing trips on-road and off-road. Just can't do some of the hardcore rockcrawling some of these guys do without 4x4, but if all youre looking for is a vehicle to see the world in, its hard to beat it.
