You probably remember my encounter with packed Bonneville salt eating a hole through my BW T-case, after a couple years, because I missed a teaspoon of built up salt. I'm surprised in your case, that the salt/fresh water mix ate completely through the case so quickly!
Water must have filled through the air vent while it was stuck in the Pismo stream, higher tide turned it into 100% sea water, which displaced the lighter than water oil high, heavier salt water sank low, and the salt started eating the magnesium casting from the inside out, like it was Alkeseltzer
But like you said, you've got another T-case. That alone would drive 99% of the prospective buyers away. With your recent experience that will be an 10hr job is all. It's the only thing on that van that's magnesium, so there's that.
I think I'd be saving the body, drilling holes in the bottoms of the doors, and low points in the rear quarter panels, peeling back all the floor coverings if that hasn't already been done.
Have you thought about a tow dolly, and towing it yourself with your van? Or maybe flat towing it with a tow bar?
