Fuse and switch panel layouts.
 
Starting to dive into the electrical side of our sprinter 144 4x4 high roof build.

We have most of the components spec'd but I'm not sure if SMB uses breaker switches, fuses, or some combination of both for the AC and DC side. We'll have a 2800w inverter, roof AC, induction cooktop, either a D5 or D2 based hot water, and the typical assortment of lights. I didn't like that you'd see a water pump switch arbitrarily placed under the counter top where it's hard to see, or that the battery switch was located near the floor. I know it takes some extra effort and wiring to bring a lot of that stuff together, but I'd something I'd like to strive for. I'm fine with light switches being located conveniently, but everything else I'd like to keep in one place. The aviation side of me is kind of OCD about panels :)

I can't speak to the attachment, just wanted to add this.

My build was done in Austin, I believe your build is scheduled for Fresno.

Each location does things differently, and I have noticed the most differences on electrical items. Fresno uses a large master cut/off switch, Austin uses a small toggle switch driving a solenoid. Both use a panel with breakers on the 110 volts side and blade fuses on the 12 volt side, in my experience both locate the breaker panel down low close to the inverter. Austin grouped my toggle switches in one central location, the Fresno Sprinter I am most familiar with has them spread out.

This is one of those items for you to think through so you can tell them exactly what you want and where you want it. If you get to the Bay Area you are more than welcome to go through my Sprinter to see how it is all laid out.

Thanks for that! That might explain why I've seen such a wide variety of setups. Do you have a photo of your breaker/switch panels?

Reminder, this is a SMB Texas 150 Sprinter build.

Here are the light switches, water pump switch and Magnum inverter/charger panel, all located on the passenger's side, upper left and just inside the sliding side door. In this layout the first rocker switch on the left drives a solenoid that controls the main power, SMB West does this differently and has a single large switch down by the breaker panel.

And here is the circuit panel; 110 volt breakers on the left and 12 volt blade fuses on the right, located just above the floor with the Magnum inverter/charger directly behind. Three pictures, cover on, cover off and close up with cover off.

The blue tape is by me, I applied it early on when we were in new vehicle learning mode and I never saw the need to remove it.

Fitz - did SMB provide some type of electrical layout plan to you? Was wondering if I could get a copy to see how the TX facility did it for comparison.

If you are hoping for an electrical single line drawing, nothing like that was provided.

Plugs were located on the floor plan drawing, locations were discussed on the phone and via e-mail. My advise is simple, if this issue is important to you take ownership of it and drive the process. I took a bunch of typical pictures of other vans and marked up the pictures with what I wanted when I had something very specific that I wanted to get across. That worked well for me.

No matter what, insist on having all fuse locations identified. Too many instances of fuses added behind trim panels with no documentation.
