Re: How can I tell if my van batteries need replacing?

If my house battery is low, can it really draw power from my starter batteries when I turn on the ignition, causing my vehicle to not start? I thought the separator only linked the circuits if the...

Re: How can I tell if my van batteries need replacing?

Thanks for the help!

I charged all batteries on shore power for 24 hrs. My new AGM 4D is reading 12.6V but drops to 12.3 when I turn on the frig and inverter. Doing this did not effect the volt...

How can I tell if my van batteries need replacing?

I believe that my two van batteries need replacing. While I was camping this weekend, I let my RV battery get down to 11.6V, the starter barely turned over the engine. I hadn't used the van...

Quick question about in-dash vents

My 2005 SMB has Starcool. Since I bought it used, all air output from the dash is from the defroster vents and under the dash. The AC won't put out any air through the front dash vents. I just...

Re: RB v EB continued

I bought a used EB though I thought I'd prefer an RB for ease of parking and maneuvering. I found that the length of the van was not the issue, it all depends on the turning radius. I love the SMB...

Can e-PH be raised/lowered if power fails?

I had a circuit breaker problem that occurred and left me wondering what would happen if I were in the middle of nowhere and the top was up. Is there a way to manually raise and lower the PH if the...

Re: What is this switch for?

PR Mulligan
The toggle switch is spring loaded. You close the circuit by pressing the switch downward. The spring keeps you from accidentally leaving the two battery circuits connected together...

Re: Espar furnace "ticking" noise

BTW the fuel pump for the furnace is mounted under the vehicle where the fuel line is tapped into.

Espar furnace "ticking" noise

I just got an espar diesel furnace installed, used it a dozen times or so and it works great, even up with some elevation at Tahoe. I do notice a "tick-tick-tick" coming from the fuel pump which is...

Re: What is this switch for?

Thanks Greg for providing the PDF on the separator. The wiring diagram shows that you can wire it for automatic or manual operation. Since it requires 3V minimum to operate automatically, I can't...

Re: What is this switch for?

Given that this separator often fails, and even when working requires a minimal voltage to engage, I think the old system with the steel switch pictured at the top of this thread is better. Simpler...

Re: What is this switch for?

Turns out that my SMB has a battery separator that should kick in and start my engine automatically if my starter batteries are low. It obviously didn't work last Sunday. I repeated the situation...

Re: What is this switch for?

Thanks John for explaining this to me. This function of the separator is not explained in my SMB manual. I am unclear on this though. I had left my ignition on accidentally and the circulating fan...

Re: What is this switch for?

I had an embarrassing moment this weekend. While camping out in my '05 diesel E350, I let the vehicle batteries get too low. My RV battery was fully charged though. I couldn't find a way to jump...

I wasn't going to buy a winch because of the cost, small likelyhood that I'll need it. Then I saw Costco sells a Milemarker 8000# winch (thanks China!) for $369 so I bought it. Fits great in the...

The problem with the Mr Heater Buddy and Coleman...

The problem with the Mr Heater Buddy and Coleman units is that there is no thermostat. My ProCat gives off 3000 BTU which turns the SMB into an oven in an hour. Then you turn it off and wake up...

How much is Espar to add?

My SMB doesn't have propane. Peter Del Toro gave me a price on adding propane, which was over $4000. I'm wondering if anyone has just added an Espar diesel furnace, how well it works, and how much...

Plugging SMB into 110v 15 amp

I read warnings about plugging into ordinary 110v 15 amp using an extension cord (even 14 ga cord). I can see the problem if I'm running high amperage appliances but what if I just want to trickle...

Just beta-tested the Coleman ProCat heater. Way too much heat to keep it on all night, and it's not adjustable. Maybe the little 1500 BTU version would be better. I'd still like to find a propane...

I could also get by with a so-so battery except for the critical need for the inverter to work so frozen Margaritas can flow. My lights work fine tho dim. I can start the engine for the...

My '05 SMB, which I just got, has a 4d Lifeline AGM but doesn't seem to hold a charge well. The SMB was liquidated from an estate so it may have sat around unused for months. A few hours of driving...
