Those open ended lines are the same elevation or lower even than the aerotank top. It therefore stands to reason that theyd see fuel spillage given the right scenario... Id say get rid of them and...

I have the aerotanks 46 gallon, and true to form that sucker holds 46 gallons! Its mond boggling. Im driving a tanker truck down the road.
