I haven't used or needed it yet, but I bought one...

I haven't used or needed it yet, but I bought one of these used for $15 and keep it in the van for snow/mud/water crossings. It's an avalanche pole. It's very light weight & fits into a small bag.

I'm fairly new to all this, and haven't been out...

I'm fairly new to all this, and haven't been out a whole lot yet, so sink holes in anything other than pavement with usually a water main break or some kind of flooding is something I've never heard...

Kinda surprised it came out as easily as it did. Also kinda surprised the recovery guy would risk getting...
