Yep, you're right: it just looks wrong. And I've wondered if it would be more tempting for kids, etc to climb on when the van is in a parking lot than a standard rear...

You're right -- the ladder would limit the door swing. Perhaps to 45 degrees or so?

I don't know about the light -- but it's moot since my van doesn't have one!
