Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

Sure! We like showing it off. Our neighbors looked at it and they ended up having Van Specialities do a full-on RV conversion to an extended high top Sprinter.

Organizing the interior

We didn't get to use our van much since we got it last Fall, but now I'm putting some final touches on for summer camping.

We usually camp in the forest, and like to have a shovel, axe, and bucket...

Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

It's hard to compare before/after, because it was a bare cargo van before, and now has a high top and full interior. But in my opinion it helped quite a bit. The van "feels" solid and has a...

Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

Thanks for the compliments. We like it too!

The cargo net was custom made by Strapworks.com from Eugene, OR to my design.

The cost of this conversion was about $28,000 plus the cost of the...

Propex heater installation

I spent some time in the garage this Fall installing a Propex heater in SilVan. I used the smaller size, HS2000, so it would fit behind the passenger rear wheel well. This is the only spot where it...

Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

Hey silver350, I was Sure you would like it!

I can sorta stand up inside and I'm 6'1"+ (1860mm). The ceiling is insulated and panelled which takes some space. The floor is a very heavy vinyl...

Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

We picked up SilVan last weekend and took it for a test camp just south of Portland. Van Specialties did a great job on the van. We are especially pleased with how the exterior looks - not too much...

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build - Van Specialties visit Aug

I took a little road trip on my new bike to check on the progress of the build. (Shameless display of my new used Suzuki WeeStrom)

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top - Sound Deadening Evaluation

I drove the van about 200 miles after the sound deadening project. Subjectively it seemed better, and the stereo definitely sounded better. There still seems to be some wind noise near the side...

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top - Sound Deadening - Cargo Area

The first step in the back was to use galvanized sheet metal to seal up the holes left when I had the rear AC removed. This dropped the nosie level about 50% alone....

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top - Sound Deadening - Engine Cover

This van had a lot of engine noise coming inside the van. During the sound deadening installation, I discovered that the floor on the drivers side was bent downwards, which created a gap in the...

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top - Sound Deadening - Doors

The second worst noise source in the front will be the doors. I use the thick CLD on the inner and outer door sheet metal on the front doors and the thinner CLD on the side and rear doors. The MLV...

Re: 2009 Ford E250 RB High Top - Sound Deadening - Front Flo

The noise closeest to the front seats is the floor. I first put down the thick CLD. It only needs to cover about 25% of the area to be treated. Formed or reinforced areas shouldn't need any, since...

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build - Sound Deadening - Materia

In preparation for the real build, I decided to do some sound deadening first. Our old vans always were quite noisey and after reading in this forum and some car audio forums, it sounds like sound...

Re: Ford RB-Westy 5.4L Build

Thanks for that suggestion, I will take a look. Both my wife and I agree there will be times when the rear AC would come in handy. Rear heat not so much. We have run a furnace while driving and it...

Re: Ford RB-Westy 5.4L Build

The van is a 4-speed. I think the 5-speed was only on V10's and cutaways.

We had rear AC in a passenger van and it worked very well. Now the kids are gone and passengers will be few. I'm sure...

2009 Ford E250 RB High Top Build

Not sure where to put this thread. This isn't really a Homemade because Van Specialties will be doing the work. But it's not an SMB either. In any case here is the empty canvas - a 2009 E250 in...
