Just wondering, would it explain it if the guy put the van on a dolly and just took a slightly longer route? It might not have been what Jage paid for, but it could explain the mileage.

This would have been the perfect opportunity to use a Ham Radio APRS setup. You could have followed it the entire time online, and then track him down at the local truckstop.
