I think it would be too much effort to coordinate a pot luck although it might be a good idea for an actual camp out/over nighter.

Times depend greatly on the traffic. Assuming the traffic gods are friendly, from Mukilteo (which is where the Whidbey Island ferry drops off) I'd guess the quickest you will make it is 45 minutes....
