Thank you for all the suggestions. I took the van to Pep Boy for a free CEL scan. The scan said basically "nothing stored on computer." The van drove fine as if nothing happened and the check...

It is a v8 5.4 engine. I don't have a scanner. I heard the noises after I turned the engine off and was unloading the van.
