Re: Why a van?

I have and they make a nice rig. The problem I thought I had was price at $150K ! But compared to their competition they are a bargain albeit because their product is not nearly as well engineered...

Re: Why a van?

Took a look and corresponded with their chief sales honcho. Minimum starting price for the Amerigo is $350K - gulp ! And the top prices get up into the $750K level. For my purposes way too much of...

Re: Why a van?

Many thanks for these references. All are truly great vehicles but the price point is way above the Van/Camper combo but it seems you get what you pay for with better engineering and integration...

Re: Why a van?

I pretty much use my SMB as you describe your use except that its driven by my real vice of racing cars. It give me a place to hang out in the heat of the day or hole up from the rain as we never...

Re: Why a van?

I agree BTW and own both. The GMC/Chev is street ahead of Ford today in so many ways. The 7.3 in its time however was the best in both van and truck mode but since then...the bean counters won!

Re: Why a van?

Van is a de facto choice for most of us. Doing a class C is understandable, but if you're really torn by a slide-in vs. van, why not look at a Tiger? You get the side door, the over cab, the pass...

Re: Why a van?

Many thanks again to all. Some things have become clearer for me such as:

If I were to need to go off road the van has greater integrity than a camper truck combo. And although none of you have...

Re: Why a van?

Many thanks for all the interesting responses. So far I have distilled the following as clinchers for a van over a camper:

Immediacy: The SMB set up is almost a load and go device. Other than...

But you get a bed space over the cab which allows the use of the floor space when its bed time. Something hardly possible in most SMB lay outs

-...

Why a van?

I already had the van with the right engine (7.3 psd) so I had a SMB conversion done. But it has some significant drawbacks for me that now seem to be better satisfied by a HD truck and a camper...
