Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

What sometimes get's lost in these discussions is that, to a certain extent, heat is a good thing. For one, efficient combustion doesn't happen until ECT reaches 190F. And running it hard at WOT...

Re: How Hot Should My 6.0 run?

My temps peak at 224 ECT and 232 EOT on a hot day and long grade. But I'm also running a tune. Anyhow, I don't think you should be concerned except that is a lot of head under the hood. That's...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

daveb, what size louvers did you end up getting. I presume they are either 11x17" or the high-flow 10x19" version. I think I'm going to do this. Not sure about the side louvers. They certainly...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

I'm in the midst of troubleshooting P2262 and P0472 codes after an EGR delete/oil cooler/turbo reconditioning job so found this:

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Descriptions
Fault Code Circuit...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

You had your 6.0 studded, right? If so, drive it like you stole it :a1:

The scanguage or similar monitor is probably the most important to do right off the bat. That, and as carringb suggested,...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

Indeed. I had a few links bookmarked while researching louvers but then dropped it as a project last month when an EGR delete/oil cooler job reared it's ugly head. Daveb's rig is the poster child...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

The remote oil cooler is ungodly expensive and still needs air to move through the external radiator. I would expect worse performance at slow, rock crawling speeds. I also think it is a solution...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

Good points Daveb. Bulletproofing in my case has occurred at 90k; and only because my egr hose began leaking. Otherwise, besides a blown injector I have had no issues with the 6.0.

I'm...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

I thought this thread was about what to do before going on a long trip? I suppose you could totally bulletproof the engine but really the critical thing is to keep the fluids fresh and buy a...

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

82,000 on mine. I'm about to replace the FICM before it leaves me stranded and I need ball joints. Replaced the batteries and alternator at 75,000. Otherwise, smooth sailing. Fingers crossed.

Re: Preventive measures on the 6.0 PSD before a long trip

You might have to spend a lot of money for piece of mind. How many miles are on it and what maintenance, preventative or otherwise, has the PO had to do?

Remember that what you read on the...
