The alternator isn't PCM controlled but it's detecting something to trigger the idiot light. Perhaps a question for Nations or DCpower.

You want to add 1/0 or 2/0gauge wire to the factory wiring harness to handle the additional load that beast of an alternator is going to generate. You probably upgraded when you did your 270A...

Ketcham, these comments give me pause so I'll add what I know about the OEM alternator setup. Other's can chime in if I'm off base. The OEM alternator has been known to slowly kill a crucial wire...
