I thought seriously about going up a size on the scissor bolts but my reticence was that would be making a tube failure a possibility and that would be much more difficult to replace than a sheared...

I replaced the scissor bolts and slider bolts with the grade 8 (highest strength) equivalents.

I replaced the mangled slider with an equivalent...

Good to know! Now that you mention it I do recall the caps.

Curious though, thinking about the chain tensioning mechanism. Why do you suppose SMB didn't just use a simple turn-buckle mechanism?
