Turns out that AAA replaced the starter battery under the hood (for free). It started up fine after that. The volt meter at that point read 13.3 and the AAA guy said it should be reading higher...

Round of applause! A ski-tanned, relieved hubby just walked in to plenty of dog barking and kids cheering. The spedometer went out 30 miles before home, but no additional outages seemed to have...

hmmm...nope he's not home yet and hasn't answered his phone in the last half hour. Good thing I'm not a worrier! ...phone's ringing...

Update: he's within about 60 miles of home, so that makes...

He's still moving...but the volt meter now reads 7.8 volts, so as you suggest, he may be on his way to discharging...will keep you posted.

Good point...I'll have him pull over and take a look. I think he'll want to keep driving and just stick his arm out the window and do hand signals. Not sure if the highway patrol on 395 will like...
