I have done this -- after getting the idea from forum member LenS (thanks!). It does make the top go up somewhat easier due to the positive pressure it generates. I don't know that I'd say "much"...

When you say "top bar tension," which part do you mean? Is that the "main" springs that need the tension taken off to adjust them, or the "helper" springs that are not under tension when the top is...

Maybe the "cutting a new hole" detail was a misunderstanding on the part of the person who mentioned it (?), but I guess the gist being that "it's a big job" was correct. Still, thanks for correcting...

I may be remembering incorrectly, but did I read that a manual can't "simply" be converted to an electric because the opening (in the roof) is a different size? If that's the case, then I could see...
