I am using 1/8" birch plywood to cover all the foam that can be seen (not the back).

I had extra foam board left over so a doubled the door foam thickness from 1/2"...

Will do something, not sure what yet. I might add another 1/2" of insulation to the top and then cover with wood for more counter space. Could also do the same thing with the door. My impression...
