My tubes have no rollers at the top to keep the tubes centered in the top. That is a new one to me. The sample I saw at SMB-I when I was looking to buy also did not have any rollers at the top.

Mine is a manual top. The bolt securing the chain to the active arm on mine appears to be 1/4 inch shorter then 4x4tour's. Mine have some clearance and do not rub. I would also have some trouble...

Just so happens I went out and looked at my penthouse scissor mechanism for the first time today....since I have not had a failure. Knock on wood.

Not sure failure is pure shear. The scissor bolts appear to also be bent in the middle. So failure could be a combination of shear and low cycle bending fatigue.

By going to a 3 inch 5/16th...

Finally a picture to look at!!!

It would be interesting to know what SMB sites are having penthouse scissor bolt failures.

Kevin's bolts that failed were 2.5" bolts....THEY SHOULD HAVE USED 3"...

Seems like I remember from a previous post that someone replaced the bolts with the next size larger for more strength??

Any idea WHY the PH scissor bolts broke??? This problem has been reported here several times. So far the discussion has been on how to replace the broken bolts and not on how to prevent it from...
