Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

...you should be able to just plug your shore power into your generator and rock-n-roll.........

I'm in Orange County.

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Yes, we are leaving the remote on charge only mode when the inverter is not in use. Good point on the sense pot; we haven't played with that yet.....not sure we need to.

He does have an...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

We ran the micro for several minutes to drain the batteries a bit to verify charging with the generator and shore power; they both are working. The microwave running off of the inverter pulls the...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

My neighbor reworked the wiring once again to put the inverter after the transfer switch.

With the inverter set to "off" the MW worked fine on generator power......as Scalf77 suggested.

With...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

That is exactly the behavior.

We did not move the slider switch on the inverter....we had the remote panel connected, so we never tried the MW from generator with the inverter switch in the off...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

The inverter is an APS2012, here is the PDF manual

Based on Dave's comments above, I'm now wondering about the "low voltage switch over to battery" dip switch....we have it set for...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

That's a great question, and you'd think we would have figured that out......I don't know......

I set say 10 seconds on the MW, push start, the entire thing blinks out, and about 1 second later...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

The hot-neutral-ground(s) are clearly marked on the transfer switch and the inverter.......I haven't checked the receptacle polarity in the coach or at the end of the shore power plug.

I cannot...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

The puzzling part is that the micro works fine on the generator with the inverter and generator wired into the transfer switch, but when we move the inverter after the switch, the gen won't run the...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Dave, 1800W is the input rating of the MW.............from the data label.

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Well.....we rewired the inverter per the right image in my first post above (inverter after transfer switch), and with the generator running the microwave it's too much load. Very weird...

IIRC...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Good point.....easy enough to switch a couple of wires; they are all under the dinette.......

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Posted the follow-up for this thread......

My neighbor picked up a Tripp-Lite 2000W MSW inverter/charger and the optional remote panel.

We wired a 10' run of 2/0 wire from the house batteries...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

My neighbor is shopping for an inverter/charger now. We'll report back once it's installed.

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Thanks Dave, yes we are presently planning on doing it like the sketch on the right with an inverter/switch/charger. Don't see any reason why that wouldn't work, and there is no reason to turn on...

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

We would wire up an inverter exactly like Tapatio has in his linked thread above, except we have a third AC input; the on-board generator.

Does anyone know if a three input transfer switch exists?

Re: Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

Dave: We can easily run some fatter wires to the inverter from the batteries, there is plenty of room under the coach to work. The batteries and area for the converter/inverter are on opposite...

Replacing a converter/charger with an inverter

This question is not actually a Sportsmobile question, but is very related.

My neighbor has a Sprinter-Freightliner RV and that has shore power, an on-board generator, and a converter/charger...
